04/08/2015On July, 25 in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria was held a scientific conference on “Folk dances as an element of traditional culture”, organized by the National Section CIOFF®, Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Regional centre for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage under the auspices of UNESCO and under the patronage of the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO.
The conference was opened by Mr. Emil Pavlov President of the National Assembly of CIOFF® and proceeded with an address by Ms. Nellina Tsyrova, Director of “Culture and Tourism” in the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo; Mr. Ventzislav Velev, Head of “Regional Activities” in the “International Activities” of the Ministry of Culture; Mr. Hristo Angelichin, Executive Director of the Regional centre for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage under the auspices of UNESCO.
The conference was attended by 18 people, among them: representatives of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers, lecturers in the National school of Dance Art, representatives of folk dance studios, Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts.
After presentations on the topic of folklore dance, considered as an element of intangible cultural heritage, the conference program continued with a discussion and sharing of best practices for solving the problems faced by professionals in this field. The need for qualified lecturers with the necessary education and qualifications, as well as conducting adequate training workshops and conferences on this theme was taken as one of the main conclusions in the final part of the discussion.
The conference was held within the International Folklore Festival Veliko Tarnovo and the participants had the opportunity to attend its final evening. It is organized by the Foundation “International Folklore Festival” and Veliko Turnovo Municipality, in Veliko Tarnovo and neighboring areas. He was awarded with the status “Festival of CIOFF®” (CIOFF®-International Council of the Organizers of Folklore Festivals and Traditional Arts).

Republic of Georgia was announced as first place winner after voting.
